After graduating from high school in 1988, Dr. Khuong Nguyen enrolled at the University of California at San Diego. In 1993, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He attended dental school at USC, also known as the University of Southern California. He completed an additional year of advanced education in general dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, or UCLA, after graduating in 1997.

Dr. Khuong Nguyen did enter the workforce after completing this portion of his education, but he quickly realized that pediatric dentistry, not general dentistry, was his true passion. He completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, a teaching affiliate of the New York Health Science Center, in order to work in the field he desired. During the first year of his residency, he achieved one of his most important objectives. He was named "Best Project in Pediatric Dentistry" at a research awards competition. Dr. Khuong Nguyen currently owns and operates his own pediatric dental practice in San Diego, California, Clairemont Pediatric Dental. It required considerable effort, and he did not arrive overnight. In 1998, he started his career as an associate general dentist. Before leaving to complete his two-year pediatric dentistry residency at Lutheran Medical Center, he held this position for one year. After completing his residency, he worked as an associate pediatric dentist for just under three years. He founded Clairemont Pediatric Dental in 2003. Shortly after opening his practice in 2008, he became board-certified.
